This Friday…
Just Coffee together with the Madison Ainaro Sister City Alliance (MASA) invites you to attend an educational evening to learn more about current conditions in East Timor and meet two East Timorese delegates that are visiting Madison from Ainaro this month. Come to Just Coffee this Friday June 13th for a pot-luck dinner beginning at 6pm (bring something to throw on the grill) followed by presentations at 7pm. Just Coffee is located at: 1129 East Wilson Street on Madison’s near east side. For more information please call: 608-204-9011.
Padre Evaristo Soares and Hermenegildo Magno Gomes will make presentations about their country, the district they live in, its people, their work, and their daily lives. Father Evaristo Fernandes da Costa Soares is a Catholic priest and has a strong commitment to youth empowerment and education. He works with the local high school where he is from and is helping to organize a new training center for Ainaro primary school students. Hermenegildo ("Agio") Magno Gomes is a human rights and sustainable agriculture activist. He's a trainer with PERMATIL, a Timorese organization devoted to Permaculture and sustainable agriculture, and is beginning work with the Gardeners of Eden Seed Project, an agricultural and community empowerment project supported by several Madison groups, including Just Coffee, Family Farm Defenders and MASA/ETAN-Madison.
Additionally Hector Hill and Colleen Coy will be presenting about the coffee industry in Timor-Leste as well as about the Gardeners of Eden Seed Project being implemented by Fundasaun Hari’i Au-Metan (Foundation to Raise up the Black Bamboo) in Ainaro and in other districts within Timor-Leste. This project has been supported by Just Coffee, Family Farm Defenders, MASA, Dean’s Beans, and the generosity of our friends around the globe. Please spread the word and join us at Just Coffee this Friday!
